It was difficult for the Eagles to return to Keeter Gymnasium so soon following their opening game loss to the University of Saint Francis, but the team headed back to Pt. Lookout last night to attend the opening ceremonies of the NAIA Division II Men's National Championships. In front of a capacity crowd, all 32 teams from around the country were introduced along with their hosts and marched onto the playing floor for the ceremony. Northwest stood next to the Cal Pac Conference representatives, Holy Names University.
Following the ceremonies, NU remained at Keeter to watch another Cascade Conference team, Oregon Tech, take on Cardina Stritch of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the final game of the long day scheduled for 9:45 p.m. The game got a late start, but OIT easily dispatched Stritch after a brief challenge from Stritch and the Eagles headed back to the Grand Plaza hotel for the evening.
Thursday's plans are still to be announced, but if the weather improves, rumor has it there might be a roller coaster ride involved in the day and then the team plans to take in more games and support Warner Pacific and Eastern Oregon as they play their first round games later today and tonight.
Go Eagles!
